‘Soft for his wife’ - disgusting, sexually motivated.
‘Absorbedly’ - sucked in
‘He had drawn a derogatory statement from George. Neutrality is important. Survival - must not show your ‘hand’. Swamper has gained George’s trust.
CURLEY’S WIFE. She is defined by the fact that she belongs to Curley. How were women viewed? Possessions - wives, mothers, prostitution. Movies - dreams.
SOLEDAD - SOLITAIRE - Imagery, loneliness, survival of fittest
Marriage is not loving.
She’s not content.
SLIM - Tall, ‘Prince of the Ranch’. He’s self-confident.
‘A Tart’. - Cruel, way in which women were categorised.
‘Ancient dog’. Both on last legs. Candy feels emotionally attached.
Menial - no skill, low paid.
SUN - light. Pathetic fallacy.
‘Like sparks’ poetic imagery - simile.
Auditory - jingle harnesses.
